At the same time, a blood pressure cuff will be inflated at different points along the leg, causing venous blood to back up for a moment, then be quickly released, so the technician can obtain the needed information.
The ultrasound exam portion of the venous reflux exam will take 20 to 30 minutes per leg, with the length of the entire procedure depending on the whether the doctor recommends treatment on one or both legs. The cost of the venous reflux exam should be covered by the patient’s medical insurance, but will depend on their specific policy coverage.
